Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using banana peel extract and application on banana preservation

This study aimed to develop an environmentally friendly silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using banana peel extract as reducing and capping agent. AgNPs obtained were characterized via Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Preservation of blocks coated with sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (Na-CMC) Na-CMC incorporated (Na-CMC + AgNPs) for 5 days also conducted. Besides the AgO, which has been identified in FTIR analysis, synthesized exhibited aromatic nitro compound, carboxyl, hydroxyl groups well. SEM image showed agglomeration caused by drying process. Banana better preservation no molds growth observed throughout storage. Meanwhile, only started grow on 3rd day. preliminary evidenced that could prolong shelf life against mold growth.
